Communities In Schools Los Angeles West Program

Angelica arrived at Venice High School two years ago as a quiet, inconspicuous 9th grader who seemed to be overwhelmed by the size and structure of high school. She was part of a Summer Bridge Program that helped her adjust to high school before her first classes in the 9th grade.

Angelica learned about Communities In Schools in that summer program and started the 9th grade as a Communities In Schools Los Angeles West student. She got to know her graduation coach very well, and she began to get involved in a number of school activities and clubs. By the end of her first year, she had good grades, promoted to the tenth grade and become one of the leaders in the CISLAW program.

Angelica became interested in technology and was a member of the New Media Academy at Venice High School. She has been on several career exploration field trips to Creative Artists Agency, and she has identified her college and career goals through the program. She has emerged as a leader in the school and program. As she begins her third year of high school in September 2009, she has a future of promise ahead of her.

Communities In Schools Los Angeles West Program

Nataly Estrada is a 10th grade student at Venice High School who has hopes of becoming an entertainer or pursuing a career in the health profession. She is very popular on campus and works hard to keep up her academics and extra-curricular activities. She has been placed in honors classes and works hard to pass her math classes. Communities In Schools Los Angeles West has provided tutoring as well as mentoring for Nataly. She has grown tremendously in her first two years of high school. She had a major role in the spring production of Annie at Venice High School, and she looks forward to exciting and challenging experiences before her graduation.
