CISLAW Events

CISLAW students, together with volunteers from City Year, CAA and the JK Livin foundation (including Matthew McConaughey), participated in a Day of Service at Venice High School on June 6th. The volunteers improved the school grounds through painting, planting in the garden and cleaning the grounds. For CIS students this was a chance to give back to their school and connect with caring, civic minded adults.

On May 20th, CISLAW and JK Livin Foundation took 40 students from Hamilton and Venice High Schools to the Los Angeles Dodgers Game. The 10 students who had the best attendance at our fitness program accompanied Matthew McConaughey onto the field when he threw out the first pitch!

CISLAW's Board Chair, Donna Weiss, hosted a friendraser at her Pacific Palisades home on May 19th. The guest list included many local and state government, education and business leaders. National CIS Board Chair Elaine Wynn, CIS President Dan Cardinali and Gary Garcia, Principal of Hamilton High School addressed the dignitaries and guests, and two CISLAW students (Nataly Estrada from Venice and Martika Yuille) described the positive impact CISLAW has had on their lives. One student said that CISLAW and Bud Jacobs have been "miracles" in her life.

In April and May, CAA and CISLAW hosted students from Venice High School and Hamilton High School at CAA's offices in Century City. Students learned about a corporate working environment and a variety of career opportunities through job shadowing and lectures from CAA agents, assistants and other staff. Students also got to see their very own screening of first run Hollywood blockbusters.

Thirty-Five students from Hamilton High School and Venice High School attended a special dress rehearsal of The Spotlight Awards at The Music Center on May 2nd. The Spotlight Awards are the culmination of the Music Centers' high school Performing Arts program which includes ballet, non-classical dance, classical voice, non-classical voice, classical instrumental and jazz instrumental. CISLAW students had the opportunity to see some of the finest young artists in Southern California perform and for many it was their first chance to see a live musical or dance performance at the Music Center.

On April 27, thirty students from Hamilton and Venice High School who have participated in our fitness program attended the premiere of Matthew McConaughey's movie, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. The students were guests at a pre- premiere VIP cocktail party which raised money for the JK Livin' Foundation, the sponsor of CISLAW's fitness program. Other VIP guests included Jennifer Garner and Michael Douglas
